Frank Carlson works as a production assistant and desk assistant coordinator at The PBS Newshour in Washington. Before that, he was a staff writer, photographer, and blogger at Metro Pulse, an alt-weekly in Knoxville, Tennessee.

In 2008, Frank earned his Master’s from Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism, concentrating on business and financial reporting with a focus on environmental issues, foreign correspondence, and hard commodities. At Medill Frank accepted a Carnegie-Knight Fellowship and spent the summer examining environmental issues in the 2008 elections — specifically, the role the Tennessee Valley Authority might play in setting energy policy for the nation.

Before that, he spent two years in Beijing, one year as an English teacher at the Beijing University of Science and Technology and another as a Mandarin student. He received his BA in English and Spanish from the University of Richmond in 2005.
